Fascia & Soffit Cleaningacross Cheshire & the North WestWhite boards, not grey ones.
Green film, black gutter streaking and years of atmospheric soiling removed from fascias, soffits, bargeboards and cladding: cleaned by hand and low-pressure methods that bring UPVC back to white without scouring the surface.
Fully insured, DBS checked, and every job photographed before and after.
What fascia & soffit cleaning actually involves
The roofline is the detail that dates a property. Fascias, soffits, bargeboards and cladding sit directly under the gutters, catch every drip and every overflow, and quietly go from white to grey-green over a few seasons. Because they are above eye level, most owners only notice how bad they have become when they see the photographs.
We clean fascias, soffits and bargeboards using purified water and appropriate cleaning agents applied at low pressure, with hand detailing on the ridges, edges and joint lines where growth accumulates and where a machine cannot reach. On heavily soiled or oxidised UPVC, a dedicated restorative treatment is used rather than abrasion.
The obvious pairing is gutter clearing: cleaning boards below gutters that are still overflowing simply resets the clock, so most clients have both done in a single visit at a better combined price.
Why professional work matters here
UPVC scratches easily and permanently. Abrasive pads, scouring cream and high-pressure jets take the sheen off the surface, and once the finish is scoured it holds dirt faster than before, so the boards look worse sooner. Professional cleaning uses the correct chemistry and dwell time, cleans the joint lines and undersides that get missed, and does the work at height safely rather than off a ladder balanced on a driveway.
Who this is for
-
Homes with grey or green rooflines
White UPVC across Cheshire that has gone dull, green or streaked over five or more seasons of weather.
-
Properties being sold or photographed
A clean roofline lifts every exterior photograph of a property more than most owners expect.
-
Landlords and managing agents
Where roofline condition is part of the maintenance record and the tenant's impression of the property.
-
Anyone already booking gutter work
The efficient time to clean boards is the visit where the gutters above them are being cleared.
When it is needed
- Boards look grey or green rather than white
- Dark vertical streaks below gutter joints and brackets
- Green algae film on north-facing soffits and bargeboards
- Chalky, oxidised UPVC that has lost its sheen
- Cobwebs, insect residue and nesting debris under the soffit line
- Before a sale, letting, or alongside a gutter clearing visit
The cost of leaving it another season.
Roofline neglect is rarely dramatic. It just steadily ages the property and hides the defects that matter.
Permanent surface damage
Prolonged growth and oxidation break down the UPVC surface. Past a certain point cleaning improves it but cannot fully restore it.
Hidden timber rot
Older properties often have timber behind or beneath capping. Growth and standing water hide rot until the board fails.
Streaking spreads to the walls
What starts as gutter streaking on the fascia carries on down the elevation, doubling the eventual cleaning cost.
Pest and insect harbourage
Soffit joints and gaps collect nesting material and insect activity that is easier to spot and address on a clean roofline.
Property presentation
Grey boards read as neglect from the street and in every photograph, regardless of how good the rest of the property is.
Common mistakes we're called in to fix
- Scouring UPVC with abrasive pads or cream cleaners, permanently dulling the surface
- Pressure washing boards, which forces water behind the fascia and into the roof space
- Cleaning boards while the gutters above them are still blocked
- Ladder work along a roofline over hard standing or sloping ground
- Painting over discoloured UPVC instead of cleaning and restoring it
Cleaning a roofline is a modest, predictable cost. Replacing fascia and soffit runs across a whole property is a scaffolded job with a very different number attached.
Five steps, agreed before we start.
Inspection & fixed quote
Roofline length, board material and condition, oxidation level and access assessed, with fixed itemised pricing before booking.
Protection & set-up
Windows, planting, paving and ground surfaces protected; safe working at height established for the property layout.
Clean & detail
Purified water and appropriate cleaning agents applied at low pressure, with hand detailing along ridges, joint lines, corners and undersides.
Restorative treatment where needed
Heavily oxidised or stained UPVC treated with a dedicated restorative product rather than abrasion, and rinsed down fully.
Inspection & handover
Roofline checked for evenness and for defects such as loose capping, rot or open joints, then walk-round and before-and-after photographs.
Specific outcomes, not vague promises.
White restored, safely
Correct chemistry rather than abrasion, so the UPVC surface keeps its finish and resists re-soiling.
The whole roofline, not the front
Fascias, soffits, bargeboards, cladding and downpipes cleaned so the property is consistent from every angle.
Instant kerb-appeal gain
The single most visible improvement per pound spent on the exterior of most properties.
Defects brought to light
Loose capping, rot and open joints are far easier to spot, and are reported to you with photographs.
Better done with the gutters
Combined visits cost less than two separate ones and stop the boards restreaking immediately.
Documented result
Before-and-after photographs of a surface you would otherwise never see closely.
Materials, methods and where each applies.
Materials across the roofline
Roofline components vary, and each needs a different level of care.
- White UPVC fascia and soffit: the most common; cleaned with low pressure and non-abrasive chemistry
- Woodgrain and coloured UPVC: textured foil finishes trap growth in the grain and need dwell time, not scrubbing
- Painted timber: cleaned gently to avoid stripping sound paint, with rot reported where found
- Aluminium and coated metal fascia: cleaned within coating tolerances to avoid dulling
- Cladding and shiplap panels: joint lines detailed by hand where growth accumulates
- Downpipes, hoppers and brackets: cleaned at the same time so the roofline reads as one clean line
Oxidation versus dirt
Chalky, dull UPVC is not simply dirty; it is oxidised, meaning the surface layer has degraded under years of UV exposure. Washing removes the dirt but leaves the dullness. A dedicated UPVC restorative treatment can recover much of the original appearance where oxidation is moderate. Where it is severe, we say plainly what improvement is realistic rather than promising a factory finish that no cleaning process can deliver.
Why gutters and boards belong in one visit
Gutter overflow is the main cause of fascia streaking. Cleaning the boards while the gutter still holds moss and silt means the next heavy rainfall re-marks everything you have just paid for. Doing both in one mobilisation is cheaper than two visits and gives a result that lasts, which is why most clients book them together.
Residential and commercial rooflines
Domestic work is normally a full roofline clean every two to three years. Commercial buildings, hotels and care homes usually pair roofline cleaning with gutter clearing on a scheduled programme, with photographs supplied for facilities records and work timed outside trading or visiting hours.

Fascia & Soffit Cleaning, straight answers.
How much does fascia and soffit cleaning cost?
It is priced by roofline length, height and condition, and quoted fixed and itemised before booking. Combining with gutter clearing in the same visit reduces the total.
Will cleaning make my UPVC white again?
In most cases, yes: dirt, algae and streaking come off completely. Where the plastic is heavily oxidised, a restorative treatment recovers much of the appearance, and we set realistic expectations before starting.
Can you damage the boards?
Not with the low-pressure, non-abrasive method we use. Damage comes from scouring pads, cream cleaners and pressure washing: none of which we use on UPVC.
Do you clean the gutters at the same time?
Yes, and we recommend it. Cleaning boards beneath blocked gutters means the streaking returns with the next heavy rain.
How long does it take?
A typical detached house roofline is completed within a day, often alongside gutter clearing in the same visit.
How often should the roofline be cleaned?
Every two to three years for most properties. Shaded and tree-covered elevations green up faster and may need more frequent attention.
Do you clean the outside of the gutters as well?
Yes: gutter faces, downpipes, hoppers and brackets are cleaned so the roofline is consistent rather than half-done.
What if there is rot behind the boards?
We photograph and report what we find. Cleaning does not repair rot, and we will tell you plainly if a board needs a joiner rather than a cleaner.
Do you need access inside the property?
No, all work is external. We do need reasonable access around the building.
Which areas do you cover?
Based in Cheshire and covering the whole North West, including Wilmslow, Alderley Edge, Prestbury, Knutsford, Hale, Bowdon, Lymm and Mobberley.
